Chapter 37: Thorns on His Body

ibly have been swayed by these ramblingsFor families like theirs, marriage is more than just a union of two people; it's often about family interests and serves as a link for alliances between familie...Huo Chenxi's already not-so-good face immediately darkened, and he stared dangerously at Su He.

A powerful sense of oppression hit him head-on, Su He's breath caught abruptly, and a panic, like being stared down by a wild beast, spread through his heart, completely waking him from his dream.

Looking at the obvious red handprint on Huo Chenxi's face, Su He licked her dry lips: "Mr. Huo, I thought I was dreaming just now, do you believe me"

Huo Chenxi's dark eyes locked onto her: "You mean you dream about beating me"

"..." Su He was speechless. His understanding seemed to make sense.

Ho Chenxi's tonguetip pressed against his molars, watching Su He's hair damp with cold sweat sticking to her temples. Suddenly, he remembered her mumbling in her sleep just now.

She cried and apologized, begging him not to leave her.

If the person in her dream was him…

Ho Chenxi's anger instantly extinguished, the corners of his mouth involuntarily lifted, and the look in his eyes towards Su He softened by a few points. However, there was still disdain in his voice: "Look at you, what a lack of ambition!"

Su He, with a sixth sense, was bewildered by the sudden lifting of the crisis.

Huo Chen Xi is dissatisfied that she only dares to hit him in her dreams, thinking she's incompetent

Should she slap Huo Shenxi again, to make him prove his abilities

Su He struggled internally for a long time, until the plane landed. Not even a slap that would prove his point was successfully thrown.

Su He didn't want any more physical contact with Huo Chenxi. After Huo Chenxi got off the plane, Su He reluctantly left the airport.

This time she came to City B on a whim, without notifying anyone at the branch.

Just as she was about to hail a cab for the city center, a black luxury car that looked quite expensive pulled up in front of her.

The car window rolled down, and Xu Tian said to Su He, "Ms. Su, are you going to the city center It looks like it's about to rain, why don't I give you a ride"

Su He glanced at the rearview mirror. It was pitch black, and she couldn't see anyone inside the car, but she could feel a bone-chilling coldness.

"No, I called a car." Su He refused and waved her phone.

Xu Tian turned his head to look at the backseat, wanting to say something, but saw Su He had already hurried towards the rear of the car.

The car she called has already arrived.

Su He bent down and got into the car. After the driver checked his information, he stepped on the gas pedal, and the car shot forward like an arrow.

Although it was night, there were still many cars on the road, often getting stuck at intersections with traffic lights.

"I used to drive a tank," the driver boasted as he swayed to the upbeat music, never letting go of the steering wheel.

The sedan weaved like a serpent through the traffic, occasionally surging forward and then slamming on the brakes, weaving its way onto the highway.

Su He felt dizzy and nauseous, her stomach churning. "Master," she said weakly, "I haven't had dinner yet…"

Before she could finish her words, the driver saw her face in the rearview mirror and immediately understood. "Are you feeling unwell Would you like to change your itinerary to go to the hospital"

"Su He spoke in a voice as light as gossamer, "No need, just drive slowly."

Upon hearing this, the driver shot Su He a disdainful glance but still obediently pressed down on the brake.

"Bang!" A loud noise and a violent vibration came from the rear of the car.

Su He was jolted from his seat and fell heavily, leaning forward with his head hitting the back of the front passenger seat.

The driver spat angrily, ignoring Su He, and got out of the car to confront the vehicle that had caused the accident.

"Bang!" Another loud crash and a violent impact.

The vehicle involved in the accident, angered by the driver, rammed into it again.

The driver, who had originally gone to settle the bill, was stunned by the sight before him, so frightened that he couldn't utter a word, completely forgetting there was still a customer in the car.

The car window rolled down, a check slammed hard into the driver's face, then sped away with a deformed front end shrouded in dust.

As the car drove by, Su He vaguely saw a girl sitting arrogantly in the back seat. She was tall and proud with an air of superiority about her.

Su He, dizzy and lightheaded, struggled to push open the car door and get out. The driver, holding the receipt with an expression of astonished glee, shouted at Su He, "I don't want this car anymore! You figure out how to get to the city center yourself."

After he finished speaking, he turned his head and sprinted away with his legs, leaving Su He stranded halfway.

Though cars came and went all around, they all drove away.

On the overpass, no cars could get through. Su He stood anxiously by the roadside.

Night had fallen, a fierce wind arose, dark clouds churned across the sky, and a humid air hung heavy with the promise of an impending storm.

Just as Su He made up her mind to move forward, a familiar black luxury car stopped in front of Su He.

"Miss Su, why are you still here" Xu Tian slowed the car down and looked at Su He in surprise, "This is too dangerous."

Su He felt awkward and looked around. He had no choice but to bite the bullet: "Assistant Xu, would it be convenient for you to take me to the city center"

Xu Tian glanced back at the rear seat, risking a fine for running a red light and stepped on the brakes: "Ms. Su, please get in the car."

The car door opens automatically.

As Su He had anticipated, Huo Chen Xi sat emotionlessly in the backseat.

There was some resistance in his heart, Su He hesitated at the last moment.

"Get in the car, don't waste time." Huo Chen Xi raised his eyes and glared at her, ordering coldly.

Su He took a deep breath and crouched down to get into the car.

A distinct woody, masculine scent hung heavy in the cramped space. Su He pressed her body against the car door as hard as she could, creating distance between herself and Huo Chen Xi.

Huo Chen Xi's eyes darkened, and he said with a hint of mockery, "Do I have thorns on me Or are you afraid that I'll eat you"

Su He eyed him, looking at his nose and his heart. With a polite yet distant air, she said: "Xiao Ho warned me before to keep my distance from you."

Huo Chen Xi was taken aback, suddenly remembering that he had indeed said such things, and more than once. Knowing she was just using it as a pretense, he still had no words to respond.

She wouldn't have been so obedient before, trying every way she could to get close to him.

For a moment, silence filled the car, punctuated only by the steady breaths of the two passengers. Their breaths rose and fell in unison, seemingly unrelated yet strangely intimate.

The car started, drove off the highway and went a short distance before encountering a construction zone.

Xu Tian tried his best to keep the car stable, but the road conditions were terrible and the car still jolted constantly.

Su He was getting drowsy, sitting there, but the jostling woke him up completely.

She gripped the handrail tightly, trying her best to maintain her balance, but still, in one careless moment, she was tossed and fell headfirst into Huo Chenxi's arms.

Her head happened to smash against Huo Chenxi's crucial spot on his legs.

She felt a burning sensation in the area that reacted so quickly, Su He felt humiliated and angry. She cursed under her breath, "Rogue," and scrambled to sit up, but the car lurched again before she could steady herself. Her body lost its balance and she tipped towards Huo Chenxi's direction once more.

To prevent such an awkward situation from happening again, Su He hurriedly reached out and grabbed Huo Chen Xi's hair.

Huo Chenxi's teeth ground together, a chilling voice laced with extreme danger ringing in Su He's ear: "If you don't want to die, let go!"onsciously."What are you doing" a cold snarl suddenly came.Su He's finger trembled, as if waking from a dream. She stared at Bai Yihuan who was struggling to breathe, unsure whether to let go or conti...
